INDEPENDENCE DAY THOUGHTS --2017

Hello Friends and Relatives; Neighbors All!

This has been a WEEK! I don’t even remember much about Monday!  Tuesday should have been my BLOG writing day, but because it was Independence Day, writing didn’t happen.  And now it’s Friday, already!!!

On July 4th, we went to Schoodic Point in Winter Harbor.  It’s such a beautiful spot on the rockbound coast of Maine.  We’ve been there before, but it’s always a special treat to return.  We took lawn chairs, a picnic, and books to read.  We never did read our books!  Besides eating our sandwiches and watching people, we just sat and enjoyed the spectacular view of the ocean and the waves splashing and crashing up onto the rocks. Children playing and running across the rugged rocks of various levels was at times enjoyable and at other times made me hold my breath, wondering if they were going to fall and get hurt.  They didn’t!

There was one little girl who was especially cute.  She was probably between two and three years old. Hanging onto her dad’s hand, she was actually hopping along at his side.  Some older boys, maybe around eight or nine years old were jumping down to a ledge below where they were standing. It looked to be too high for a safe jump, It wasn’t! They made landing just fine.

So we ended up sitting there, soaking up the sun (with sunscreen, of course), absorbing the atmosphere, and jus drinking in the experience.  It’s always fun to say hello to people we don’t know.  Some folks walked past us without making eye contact, but others were more than willing to acknowledge their fellow human beings.

When I worked at Hannaford Supermarket in Machias, I was always fascinated by the various states represented in the parking lot when I went out to retrieve shopping carts. One summer, I tried to keep track of the different states.  I don’t remember now exactly how many different states’ license places I saw that summer, but it was something like about, or close to, two thirds of the fifty states.

Tuesday, on July 4th, we didn’t see nearly that many, but we did see a lot! It was so nice to think of all the folks from near and far who came and enjoyed that piece of our beautiful state of Maine on our country’s birthday.

Until next time, it’s always night SOMEwhere, so Good Night and God Bless!
Romans 15:33 May the God of peace be with you all. Amen
