IS THE GLASS HALF FULL OR HALF EMPTY?

Hello Friends and Neighbors,

IS THE GLASS HALF FULL OR HALF EMPTY?

I generally prefer to see the positive side of things whenever possible and I try to look at the proverbial glass as half full.  Having said that, when I find myself miserable, it's usually because I've done something stupid that I COULD and SHOULD have prevented!!!

When I was sewing a quillow for my young grandson, I had it nearly completed.  (By the way, a quillow is a quilt with a pocket sewn onto one side in the middle of one end.  The quilt is then folded up and tucked into the pocket and becomes a pillow!  Hence, a quillow!) All of the machine sewing was done on this quilt.  The last step was to do the quilting stitches, to hand sew with embroidery floss little basketballs all over it in hit or miss places on it-- no particular pattern-- through the three layers to keep the layers from bulking up when washed.  To make the circles, I took a quarter and traced around it on the fabric with a wash-out fabric marker and then drew in the lines to make it look like a basketball.  That all went very well.  The stitching was fun as always.  I love to sew whether by hand or machine.

---And then... MISERY CAME!  One day I'd been sewing little basketballs into the quillow all afternoon.  Early evening came and I now kept losing my needle and the needle threader-- not at the same time necessarily.  I was getting tired and just not THINKING when I had to lay one or the other down.  Every time that I was down on floor on my hands and knees hunting for the missing item on the carpet,  I would get VERY frustrated with myself for not being more responsible about it!

I brought my own misery on by not paying attention to what I SHOULD have been doing each time I finished threading my needle or each time I had to lay the needle down. The next day, I DID get myself organized with a pin cushion nearby and saved myself a LOT of frustration thereafter!!!  ---MISERY GONE!!

Yes, it seems like every time I find myself in a predicament, like a broken wrist(!), (actually I believe the doctor used the word, "crushed,")  it can probably be traced back to someone (ME!) not paying attention to what I SHOULD have been doing at the moment of the incident.  Moving a lawn chair after dark too close to the edge of the deck, plopping down in it without looking, and then promptly toppling about three steps down to the brick pavement will qualify!!!  It certainly brought on the diagnosis of a crushed bone in my wrist!  And it COULD have been prevented IF I had only really LOOKED where I was placing that lawn chair!!!!!
We were trying to look at the stars in the night sky that evening and the outside light from next door was shining in our eyes.  So we moved our chairs to the other side of the deck.  I almost saw more stars than I had bargained for that night!  I ended up with a wrist in bad condition and a bump on my forehead!

The GOOD part of this story is that when the doctor operated on my wrist the next morning, he also operated on the carpal tunnel in that wrist!  I was employed at Hannaford at the time.  After my wrist was healed and I was back to work in full mode, part of my job was to retrieve grocery carts from the parking lot. My fingers were stiff and it was hard to make a fist because I'd had a metal plate in my wrist for about a month to allow the bone to heal correctly.  The velcro brace that I had to wear kept my wrist from moving and also my fingers!!!  Therefore, I could just barely wiggle the tips of my fingers while those two things were in place.  When the metal plate was removed, I still had to wear the brace for another few weeks.  When the brace was no longer necessary, grabbing hold of, wrapping my fingers around the bar, and pushing those carts was perfect therapy for my fingers and wrist!!

My wrist was healed and the bone, the doctor said, was stronger than before the break!  The carpal tunnel syndrome was gone in that wrist! The glass was half full after all!!!

How about you? Is your glass half empty or half full?  I pray that it's half full and even full to overflowing with God's blessing!!!

And for now, Goodbye and God Bless...
May the God of peace be with you all. Amen.  Romans 15:33
